About Anabasis: Founded in 2020 by Joonas, Juuso, and Alessandro, Anabasis began as a piano trio hosting jam sessions and concert series in Helsinki. Our collective enthusiasm led to the addition of Tomi on trumpet, and throughout the pandemic, we developed a repertoire of original compositions and innovative arrangements of jazz standards.
The name Anabasis—drawn from Xenophon’s ancient work—translates to “inland march,” symbolizing a journey from the coast to the heart of a city and an inward journey of exploration. Our music invites listeners to embark on this journey, exploring a broad emotional landscape of dynamic compositions and intricate harmonies.
